The Frankston Tigersharks superules football team broke through for their first ever premiership yesterday in the division 3 grand final of AFL masters.

Challenged all day the Sharks hung on in a nail biting finish to gain victory by a mere 5 points over a gallant Werribee.

The game opened with both teams throwing themselves at the contest and it was the Sharks that scored the first goal. However, with the aid of a strong breeze the Bees slotted home the next three and held a handy 13 point lead at the first interval.

The second term saw backman Steve Shaw thrown into the middle which turned out to be a great move as he tagged Werribees main playmaker as well as getting alot of the ball himself. Geoff Shaw and Chris Maclean took control of the ruck and up forward Matt Shaw was proving to be a solid target. The sharks ended up kicking four unanswered goals for the term to go in at the long break 15 points in front.

The game was up for grabs in the third quarter as both teams gave it there all. The Tigersharks backline was standing up well, manfully led by Phil Jones, Randall Harris, Paul Govaars and Graeme Dyall. However, in a matter of moments Dyall injured his knee and with a couple of undisplined acts from the Sharks Werribee had gained  the momentum to trail by a mere 3 points at the last change.

Heriocs from Damian Hardstone, Dave Holyhead, Chris Maclean, Rob Jackson and Steve Shaw through the midfield denied Werribee the footy. In the dying moments of the game Werribee kicked a goal to put themselves only 4 points down, then tall Sharks forward Neil Fisher dribbled the ball through for the sealer. With less than a minute on the clock Werribee again scored however, the Sharks hung on to win by 5 points in a tense final term.

It was a fantastic team effort and capped off a fine season with the Sharks going through the year undefeated.

Final Score Frankston 8.10.58 defeated Werribee 8.5.53

TIGERSHARKS BACK ON THE TRACK
Preseason will commence on Wednesday 19th November at Monterey High School located just behind the Pines footy club.

While the Tigersharks are still on a high after their triumphant season they are aware that the road ahead next year represents a new set of challenges.

While the Coaching staff remains the same as last year Supers - Shane Dawes, Matsers Peechers and with the 047s to be confirmed,  pre-season will be kicked off under the guidance of both Damien Hardstone and Matty Shaw for the 5-6 weeks that we can get a kick in before Christmas.
The inclusion of a new team for the 047's comp is an exciting development for the club and we look forward to the challenges that will bring.

Despite the success of last year the committ3e has been working hard to ensure that as a club the momentum is constantly forward. New recruits are very welcome and should find the atmosphere at the club a great balance of fun and success. A club run with a great deal of care and professionialism.
